Final VFX Project

VFX Final Breakdown from Ricky Martinez on Vimeo.

Above is the final composite for my visual effects project including the breakdown. A lot of work but I've learned the basics of Nuke and I'm looking forward to the next semester.

Nuke Compositing

Node tree showing keylight and tracking of footage (Greenscreen Car) and Background Plate with before and after screenshots showing the comped CG glass and windows. Still a work in progress but very close to finalization. Needs color grade and removal of tracking markers.

Color Correction inspired by Peter Doyle's digital grade for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1

VFX Reference

For my vfx compositing final I'm planning to shoot a car crash scene. The best reference is the car chase in The Bourne Supremacy at 1:19 when the cop car crashes into Bourne's car.

I'll be shooting an actor inside a vehicle in front of a greenscreen and tracking markers. I'll shoot a Background plate of the other car that will crash into him. I'll roto the actor and add CG glass and matchmove the BG plate to the moving plate.

Keying

Nuke Keying Breakdown from Ricky Martinez on Vimeo.

Composited this very challenging assignment in Nuke.

I was the visual effects supervisor (And Co-Screenwriter) on a student science fiction film titled 'Beyond Lies the Wub' based on the short story by Philip K. Dick (Bladerunner, Minority Report).

Originally I comped the footage in After Effects very hastily and was never satisfied with the final product.

I decided to use this as a challenge in my Nuke training as I not only had to key the greenscreen, but garbage matte the tracking markers and track the background.

Overall it was a very arduous yet rewarding process. I was able to pull a clean key (after several keylight tweaks) apply a lens flare effect and add kodak Film Grain to the background to match the original footage. A lot of work!

Seasons change in Nuke

The first assignment in Nuke was to create three seasons from a single image. I chose to transition Spring, Autumn, and Winter.
